All Night is a 1918 American silent comedy-drama film directed by Paul Powell and starring Carmel Myers and Rudolph Valentino. It is one of Valentino's earliest films and one of the few in which he plays a comedic role. In contrast to the screen persona of "The Great Lover", the character of Richard Thayer is shy and insecure. Although he was invariably the object of sighs and the cause of fainting of most women of the time...
In 1918, the film was promoted with the tagline: "Fools go where husbands fear to go."

The Cameraman is a 1928 American silent romantic comedy film directed by Edward Sedgwick and an uncredited Buster Keaton. The picture stars Keaton and Marceline Day. It is considered by fans and critics to be Keaton still in top form, and it was added to the National Film Registry in 2005 as being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
Buster, a sidewalk tintype portrait photographer in New York City, develops a crush on Sally, a secretary who works for MGM Newsreels. To be near her, he purchases an old film camera, empties his bank account, and attempts to get a job as one of MGM's cameramen. Harold, an MGM cameraman who has designs on Sally himself, mocks his ambition.

The occasion for us to screen this film is the 88th anniversary of the adoption by the Nazi German Reichstag on September 15, 1935, of the Nuremberg Laws - "Nuremberg racial laws" - excluding Jews as full citizens and depriving them of civil and human rights. The City Without Jews (German: Die Stadt ohne Juden) is a 1924 Austrian Expressionist film by Hans Karl Breslauer, based on the novel of the same title by Hugo Bettauer. It shows the birth of primitive anti-Semitism and points to the dramatic fate of Jews in the near future.
Shortly after the premiere of the film Hugo Bettauer was murdered by a Nazi Party sympathiser.
The film screening will accompany Jewish (Klezmer) music performed live by a Galway-based artist.

The Last Laugh (German: Der letzte Mann, transl. The Last Man) is a 1924 German silent film directed by German director F.W. Murnau. The film stars Emil Jannings and Maly Delschaft. Jannings' character is a doorman for a famous hotel, who takes great pride in his work and position. His manager decides that the doorman is getting too old and feeble to present the image of the hotel, and so demotes him to the washroom attendant. He tries to conceal his demotion from his friends and family but, to his shame, he is discovered.
The Last Laugh was of great importance to other outstanding directors, such as Alfred Hitchcock, who did not hide his fascination with Murnau and the influence of his film achievements on his own work. Critics praised the film's style and artistic camera movements.

We invite you to another film and music event from the Oh So Pretty Concerts series! This time, we will take you to the surreal world of Maya Deren. You will watch her unique, avant-garde films from the 1940s and 1950s. The screening will be accompanied live by the music and sounds of the Irish harp performed by the talented artist Francesca Lundvall, an American and Irish living in Galway. Maya Deren was an experimental filmmaker and an important part of the avant-garde in the 1940s and 1950s. The function of film, Deren believed, was to create an experience. You will find out what she meant during the screening and concert by Francesca. It is a real treat for seekers of undiscovered lands.
The entire event will be audio and video recorded by our Film Studio.
